A little "brain-teaser" (that the answer to the first should be linked to above, but these may go off topic and need to be split to another thread, so please try not to mingle different replies to other (more on-topic) posts with this (trivial) post, and I or other staff can handle the splitting much easier that way).

Q: Why don't they just haul the Space Shuttle Orbiter across the U.S. on train cars/rail instead of a modified Boeing 747?

Q2: Why don't they just land it where they launch it?

Hi Dmole!

Q: Why don't they just haul the Space Shuttle Orbiter across the U.S. on train cars/rail instead of a modified Boeing 747?

A: It's too big to fit under any bridge or overpass or through any tunnel, too heavy to cross any bridge, and probably too heavy for the rails in the first place.

Q2: Why don't they just land it where they launch it?

A: They try to but sometimes the weather doesn't permit.

DING DING DING!- we have a winner (with TN) for Q1... but for the record TN, that "answer" is "pronounced" 'thusly' (IMG:http://pilotsfor911truth.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) _:

"Orbiter specifications[21] (for Endeavour, OV-105)

* Length: 122.17 ft (37.237 m)
* Wingspan: 78.06 ft (23.79 m)
* Height: 58.58 ft (17.86 m)"

P.S. Ya'allz on your own on #Q2, and quite frankly- I think my #Q3 has NO ANSWER AT ALL (but someone/ANYONE is WELCOME TO TRY!!!)

That shit was split from here:
