70 Punished in Accidental B-52 Flight

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071020/D8SCMSJG0.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Air Force said Friday it has punished 70 airmen involved in the accidental, cross-country flight of a nuclear-armed B-52 bomber following an investigation that found widespread disregard for the rules on handling such munitions.

"There has been an erosion of adherence to weapons-handling standards at Minot Air Force Base and Barksdale Air Force Base," said Maj. Gen. Richard Newton, the Air Force deputy chief of staff for operations.

Newton was announcing the results of a six-week probe into the Aug. 29-30 incident in which the B-52 was inadvertently armed with six nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and flown from Minot in North Dakota to Barksdale in Louisiana without anyone noticing the mistake for more than a day.

The missiles were supposed to be taken to Louisiana, but the warheads were supposed to have been removed beforehand.

A main reason for the error was that crews had decided not to follow a complex schedule under which the status of the missiles is tracked while they are disarmed, loaded, moved and so on, one official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.

The number 70 is very high. I'm surprised about that.

Revision on the Missile Story

QUOTE

Fosset Case Puzzles Local Glider Pilot

Mr Lynskey and a group of New Zealand glider pilots got to know Mr Fossett during the past five years when they have all gathered in the Nevada desert to fly.

The Waihopai Valley resident said this morning that he and other glider pilots think it's strange that Mr Fossett has been unable to call out on the channels used by airlines.

"It's something most of us have done when we've got into trouble and are out of cellphone range.

"It's surprising he hasn't been able to do that."

Mr Fossett has been missing since Tuesday and searchers are focusing on a 1554-sq-km area south of the airstrip used by Fossett about 128 km southeast of Reno, Nevada. The 63-year-old was reported missing after failing to return from a flight inspecting dry desert lake beds.

Search continues for aviation adventurer Steve Fossett

Fossett was flying in a single-engine, Citabria Super Decathlon -- a plane capable of aerobatics -- with tail number N240R, according to CAP. Fossett, though, had no parachute, which is required for aerobatics.

There has been no sound detected from the plane's emergency locator radio beacon, which goes off if there is a hard impact.

Rumours that six warheads were delivered from Minot AB and only five arrived at Barksdale.are supported by both the following articles and the style of the ensuing search:

A B-52 bomber mistakenly loaded with five nuclear warheads flew from Minot Air Force Base, N.D, to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., on Aug. 30, resulting in an Air Force-wide investigation, according to three officers who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss the incident.

The B-52 was loaded with Advanced Cruise Missiles, part of a Defense Department effort to decommission 400 of the ACMs. But the nuclear warheads should have been removed at Minot before being transported to Barksdale, the officers said. A possible flightpath of the B52 concludent with the flighttime of three to four hours

I am writing this because of the B-52 bombers flight plan as shown in your
post. When I was watching CNN the day they first aired this information, the
U.S. map had a superimposed arrow covering the same flight as you show. Later
in the day when I watched they were showing the arrow going straight from N.D
down to La.

It immediately jumped out at me cause the first showed the bomber flying over
Az. and the second was not. Why did they change the map arrow from one showing
to the next? How did they learn to change the arrow? I don't expect an answer
from you but maybe it will be a clue as to what is going on between the people
in the know.

Watching Fox news today 9/9 they showed a picture of Fossett's plane.

They said his plane had high performance wings that would burn off
leaving the aluminum fuselage in a crash.

Has anyone considered what a wingless small plane resembles?

This reader is making an EXCELLENT point.... are they telling the searchers to look for a plane with NO WINGS?

From the air that would look exactly like a MISSILE!

Norm, spotted what I am sure was a Dragon Lady inbound to the area this morning. He was skirting the balloon races to the South. Maybe out of NASA Ames.

An Air Force U-2 Dragon Lady

In 1956 the term "Dragon Lady" was born with a major Central Intelligence Agency operation by the same name using the U-2. It comes with a wide range of all kinds of different sensors. The plane has a modular equipment that can be exchanged very quickly depending on the necessities of the mission. E.g. - detecting possible emissions from a nuclear warhead in REALTIME-PROCESSING...

Meanwhile the "search radius" for Fossett's missing plane has been "concentrated" on a 80-km radius around the private airstrip Fossett took off on Labour Day.

"Day five of the search ... Civil Air Patrol wings from Nevada, California, and Utah; Nevada and California National Guard aircraft; California Highway Patrol; and Silver State Helicopters of Las Vegas are all taking part in the search effort.

Approximately 26 aircraft, 230 ground searchers, and one sonar-equipped boat are part of the search. An aerial search of roughly half of the 10,000 square mile search area has been completed. More than 150 flight hours have been flown in the effort."

"Hank" Morrow, the Inland Search and Rescue Coordinator, is responsible for coordinating all federal inland commercial, military, and interstate aeronautical search and rescue in the contiguous U.S. using the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center located in the 601st Combined Air and Space operations Center at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla."

70 Punished in Accidental B-52 Flight ???

That's a lot of personnel.

Have the evil perps who signed the authorization to move these weapons, and their clique of "Christian" minions, won? Are they are now cleansing the Air-Force of those who might stand in their way?

Or have the good guys in the military, who searched so hard for the missing missile on the pretext of seeking Steve, rounded up all the traitorous troops and brought them to justice?

And was there really a sudden spate of deaths from Minot Air-Force Base?

I must have missed something, but what does Fosset MIA have to do with Minot/Barksdale?

And the Citabria doesn't have an aluminum fuselage--it's fabric covered, like the wings.

Sorry, Amazed, I should have summed up the picture I'm getting from these news items.

The missiles are said to have been flown from Minot to Barksdale on the 30th of August. Fossett was reported to have disappeared four days later, on the 3rd of September.

One source claims that a news broadcast showed the bomber's route curving westwards, bringing it at one stage of its flight over the area where Fossett is said by his wife to have disappeared.

There was a huge military search put on for Fossett, which included an aeroplane one would expect to be used in a search for something nuclear.

You point out that Fossett's plane was cloth covered, yet people were told to look for a wingless aluminium fuselage, suggesting it was a missile being looked for.

The discrepancy between the two earliest reports from the military would make sense if they first assumed the five missiles they had were all that had been sent, and then realised Barksdale had sent six. There is no way they could have told the public if a nuclear missile was lost and they had no idea where it was or how or why it had been stolen. They would be under enormous pressure to find it, but they could not let the public know they were looking for it. So they would have to disguise the reasons for the search.

Putting all this together, it seems to me Fossett and the missiles are parts of the same story.

Now to move from news-based logic to imaginative speculation ...

Fossett appears to be very fit, experienced and intelligent. There is no knowing just what a man like him might be capable of. It could be someone in the military realised this talented person, (who may have been known to some of the top brass personally,) was just the "James Bond" they needed to quietly go off and try to track the missing nuke down independently.

Sadly, the last report suggests people have given up hope of finding him alive.
