Take a look at this where soon into this piece of aviation history test pilot Jan Zurakowsi cartwheels a Gloster Meteor F4, complete with rockets under wings, at Farnborough 1951:

Climbs and bleeds off speed, shuts power one engine so that aircraft turns to face ground then shuts power on other engine. A couple of turns later regains control whilst diving by powering up engines and pulling up.

Watch out early on for that large silver monster in the foreground during the birds eye pan. That is the Brabazon which I oft saw fly overhead as a kid with its eight Centaurus sleeve valve radials (only 4 fairings for prop shafts) roaring away.

Those Meteors were used in the early 1950s for testing Fairey Fireflash IR missiles against drone Fairy Fireflys.
