Sen. Barak Obama came to Manchester, New Hampshire today, but whomever his political advisers are obviously know little to nothing about New Hampshire politicking. It has been the time honored tradition for prospective presidential candidates that come to New Hampshire to test the waters for a White House run, to meet and greet the voters.
Mr. Obama instead, chose to go the elitist route, by selling tickets to his speech, but for some inexplicable reason, the average Joe and Janes of New Hampshire knew nothing of where to buy these tickets. Had we known anyway, we would not have paid to see a politician speak. The media frenzy surrounding the " rock star" of the Democratic Party was evident today outside of the Radisson Hotel in downtown Manchester. There were two scheduled speeches for Obama here today. The first was for 1,500 supporters, who paid twenty five dollars apiece to hear him, although for the life of many of us, we don't know who these 1,500 people are. Because again, no one informed the people of Manchester about these tickets, nor even the location of the speech. The second speech was given to the " higher end " voters at $150.00 a pop. He also sold tickets to a book signing event in Portsmouth New Hampshire, scheduled for later in the day. In 2003, when Howard Dean was checking out the political landscape, he had the good sense to arrange a speech at the Palace Theater on Hanover street. It was a free event, and was opened by the actor, Martin Sheen. The same press was there, but then, so were we all. And there was no charge to hear the thoughts and ideas of a man who was asking us to trust him to lead our nation. And again, in 2004, after John Kerry was the Democratic choice, he came back to New Hampshire and held audience at a podium set up in front of City Hall, while at the same time President Bush was holding court at the Verizon Center at a pay per view event. The elitist move on the part of Barak Obama was a slap in the face to the voteres of New Hampshire. Again, most of us knew he was coming and were desperately trying to find out where he'd be speaking. But not one person that I know could find out where the event was to be held until yesterday. And when we found out that the ' event ' was to cost money, we were flat out outraged. Obama, by this move, has shown himself to be an elitist. He is being groomed by the elites, hangs out with the elites, and now, only the elites get to hear his ideas for moving our country in a new direction. Like I said, after lots of checking, not one person in our albeit not huge circle, but large enough to be in the know, knows anyone who got into this speech. This smacks of cronyism right from the beginning. In other words, they allowed only cherry picked Democrats into these events, and forgot the rest of Manchester. New Hampshire voters jealously guard their " first in the nation " status. We are proud of the tradition of prospective candidates coming to have coffee with us in our shops, and stopping by homes and walking the streets of our cities in order to try to gauge the pulse of the people. Obama did none of that today. And so, we'll get the sound bites on television, and in the newspapers, but have no real sense of whatever the man had to say. I believe Mr. Obama and his handlers made a strategic blunder in this regard. We won't forget this insult, and for sure, we won't vote for a person who will not come to us like one of us, and speak to us directly. Barak Obama today revealed himself for just another member of the political elite, who could care less what the common person thinks, just so long as the media follows him around, and people will pay to hear his voice. Politics as a pay per view event won't fly here in New Hampshire, and the next one in line after Mr. Obama may do well to remember that when they come stumping through our snowy state. We are the people who have the power to not vote for a candidate, just as we have the power to place one in office, and the independant press up here in the " Live Free Or Die " state is already having a field day at this snub. The election may be two years away, but we, the voters of New Hampshire have long memories, and are voracious advocates for the ones we trust, and equally voracious in campaigning against those we believe to be elitists........................................Batmanchester http://vigilantwatchnewsandblog.com/blog.html This post has been edited by batmanchester: Dec 10 2006, 01:53 PM |

Okay, Barak Obama is slipping back into "just another elitist politician whore" category. He was climbing into the "potential human being who may be worthy of trust by the voters" after reading part of his book, but this definitely took him down a few pegs.

yeah cary, several of us stood outside the hotel, hoping to just get even one question in to him, any question.
but they whisked him out of there like he was already the president or something. manchester is not going to like this guy at all. past experience should have told him that you don't come to new hampshire and think you're going to be the " top dog " without a sitrep with the average people. |

Maybe he's being purposefully scuttled (with his knowledge, just like Kerry in 2004) to let Hildabeast have the nomination and the White House. As JerryB has pointed out, David Icke claims US presidents aren't elected, they're SELECTED. I'm a believer in that.
