elreb,

on a completely unrelated note, are you aware that you and i are the only two members of the
'extreme forum pilot' group. to what, do you suppose we owe that distinction?

'extreme forum pilot' a classification beyond imagination?
...it weren't me,
but i detect a deeper intelligence and logistic reasoning, at work here, behind this new classification.
It's a good thing, as it has taken lots of work, searching and researching to achieve this rare distinguished level of membership...

(This is the first i've noticed it. i'll look into it if you want. lunk)

The following is a picture of two galaxy clusters passing by one another. They act in the same manner as a comet moving around the Sun.

Notice the comet appearance of El Gordo, including two "tails" extending to the upper right of the image.

This cluster is said to contain 2 quadrillion Stars and 20 quadrillion planets

Incoming!

??? You tell me...

The solar flare erupted at 0359 GMT (which corresponds to late Sunday, Jan. 22 at 5:59 p.m. Hawaii), triggering a solar explosion known as a coronal mass ejection that sent a stream of charged particles into space.

HILO, Hawaii: Residents across the Island of Hawaii reported feeling an earthquake on Sunday, Jan.22 around 4:36 p.m..

The United States Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory measured a magnitude 5.0 about 4 miles south of the active Pu’u O’o crater on the Kilauea volcano’s east rift zone, within the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Hi elreb, Groundpounder, lunk and DoYouEverWonder

I just lurked through all this, 'cos today I read the news about
a gigantic Solar eruption that hit Berlin at about 1500hrs CET and I am
wondering about the psychological and/or mental consequences that this event might or
certainly will cause.

Can some of you experts give me a briefing on this?

will apreciate it: Carl

To respond to your question, most folks are oblivious to solar eruptions.

Your question sat here for a week and no one responded.

The real question is “What is the cause”?

Does the Sun affect Earth or does the Earth affect the Sun?

I didn't respond because I certainly don't consider myself an expert on this stuff.

I just get nervous when the nuclear reactor that our lives depend on starts acting funny.

Thenak you, elreb and DYEW.

Yes, true. It doesn't feely cozy when the sun acts that way.
But isn't here anyone who maybe got a links to the documentation of
the effect of an earlier event similar to this?
And... don't ask me to look it up in the old testament.

hey carl,

there was a guy named forbush who conducted an experiment back in 1946 that showed cosmic rays from a solar flare could reach sealevel at 40 degrees north latitude. just fyi.

In generic terms:

Having an “Affect” could mean having an “Influence”.

On the other hand

Having an “Effect” could mean having a cause that lead to a result.

The “Earth” expands as it cools, resulting in Expansion.

Therefore, does the Sun react to Earth or does the Earth react to the Sun?

Earth is almost 5 times older than the Sun and Venus is 3 times older than Earth.

Sorry, there never was a “Big Bang”.

Solar flares influence the quality of wine.

They have “Zero” effect on mankind. [Unless you are a connoisseur]

interesting conjecture which, speculative as it is, is wholly unprovable ( i think). if i understand correctly, at least some of what you are proposing is analogous to the shift in thinking of current flow in a wire. for a long time, conventional wisdom had electrons flowing in one direction and now it's 'actually' holes flowing in the other direction. hard to say. if you're going with the whole electric universe thing, does the miniscule mass of the earth as one plate of a capacitor somehow equal the charge potential of the plate of the sun? or is it a quality issue?

the effects of a solar flare are easily observed. one notable example occurred in 1857 (i believe), knocked out telegraph service in america. that certainly affected people trying to communicate that way.

if what forbush observed is accurate (namely that some solar flares can be a source of cosmic rays), then yes, solar flares can affect people and cause effects. radiation does that. fukushima, nagasaki, and the myriad areas where 'depleted' uranium was used are prime examples.

my 2 cents worth. copper ones, not the low quality zinc ones. not that i have anything against zinc mind you.

I admit that I was not thinking of cellphones, the internet or GPS.

Within the history of Earthlings…our Sun…is not the problem.

Our entire Galaxy is interactive…

Radioactive Stars become Planets when they run out of fuel.

It takes “Thorium” 14.05 billion years to relax. [Thor]

It takes “Uranium” 4.47 billion years to relax. [Anu]

I am reluctant to explain the entire process…unless you want to know!

ohhhhhhhhh Luuuuunnnnnnnnnnkkkkk......

http://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/aiahmi/lates..._0171&r=512

Would you (or any sun savvy folk) take a look at this loop and riddle me what is going on with the black round object in the SE corner of the corona that is "tethered" to the sun by a plasma band??? blink.gif

And why does is suddenly "take off" and let the band spash back into the sun surface?

Curious minds wanna know thumbsup.gif

Here is a youtube discussing the orb....doesn't cover the "take off" tho

i have no idea,
a dark matter sun sucker, perhaps?

Comets come from someplace, perhaps this is how they begin?

or the sun is the giant nucleus of a solar atom, and it is emitting a very large slow neutron...

Gentlemen…start your nuclear engine.

First think…of making homemade Spaghetti Sauce or Chili. As it reaches a boil you begin to see cavitation or vapor boil which sometimes causes splatter.

In the case of a Star, it goes thru a stage where the surface temperature can be hotter than the core temperature.

At one level, isolated bubbles can separate from the surface and in other cases they can induces fluid mixing.

What may be called a “Solar flare” could be an ejection of vapor in the form of a jet or slug of vapor.

What you call a “take off” splash back, is fluid mixing.

Functionally, you have heat transfer and you have mass transfer. It is a form of chaos.

When a Star supernovas, it actually gets hotter as heavier elements fall to the core and the lighter elements flee to space.

At this point, the temperature transfers from thermal to radiant. You see the same thing in a campfire.

Keeping in mind that the Sun's diameter is 110 times greater than Earth's diameter,

then the diameter of the black 'orb' would be around 5.2 times greater than diameter of Earth,

or around 66000 Km.

The length of the black 'tail thing' would be around 7.3 times longer than diameter of Earth,

or around 93000 Km.

I personally think it's simply a little 'creepy crawly' thing on the lens of the telescope; but of

course, that's just a "theory" of mine and nothing else! wink.gif

As an added curiosity: the ratio between the length of 'the tail' and the diameter of 'the orb',

is pretty much 1.4, which, multiplied by One million, equals the diameter of the (our) Sun!

Cheers

Yes, that was pretty weird.
Dr Strong made a sensible video about it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gojbnbCab0A

(couldn't help but notice that he only used stills, rather than showing the active video, throwing in space-ships and aliens?!
and in his previous video on the 12th:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuWozql1fw4

he zoomed into the sun so one couldn't see that activity in the South)

Something just happened that is being obscured.

i wonder if it was a dark-matter-sun-sucker...

The best explanation i've heard is it was a solar filament, that forms above the surface of the sun. They usually are long snake like structures that grow, and sometimes erupt from the sun, usually violently.

(...does the same thing as my solar sun sucker.)

It sure looked like it grew, developed, disconnected, and launched.
i don't think that it was an area of space, with a lack of matter, that left the sun, but something of substance of some sort.
