After watching the major media networks coronation of Sen. Barak Obama since yesterday, I thought it important enough to make a second entry regarding this candidate.
Obama, according to all the media outlets, swept into New Hampshire as a conquering hero, with Manchester voters fawning over him, and calling upon him to run. But if we examine exactly who it was that actually got to attend the young senator's speech yesterday, you'll notice a strange pattern emerge. Take a look at the people who were interviewed for their thoughts on this stump and you'll find almost no one from Manchester proper speaking into the cameras. They were all from places like Keene, New Hampshire, Alton, Claremont, and Laconia, all bastions of the rich of the state. The ordinary people of the city, who have come to expect sit downs with potential presidential candidates would not have even known he was here in town, had it not been for all of the media hooplah surrounding the man, with journalists from as far away as Australia comprising the contingent. All of the media have stated that the campaign stump was a wildly, huge success, with so many supporters of Obama calling on him to run, that we might as well just call off the election, and hand him the keys to the White House. But they made one big strategic blunder. It may do well to stage a huge media event in order to further one's political career. But you can not come into New Hampshire, expecting us to drop to our knees in front of the newly crowned media's king. We don't like pretentious, snobbish, elitists, and we really don't like elitists who try to spin the situation into what they want it to look like. This was a staged, pay per view event, allowing worshipping fans a chance to catch a glimpse of their " American Idol. " The arrogance surrounding this man's campaign is palpable. One only has to read this one paragraph from MSNBC to realize exactly who and what we're dealing with here. This slap in the slap should be a brace of icy New England water for voters who are starting to believe the hype of the media. Listen to this: "Traditionally in New Hampshire presidential candidates must do small-scale campaigning, answering voters’ questions at Main Street coffee shops and beauty salons." This is right on the mark as far as MSNBC goes, and it's what the voters expect, but then the real Obama comes to light, ' " The hoopla surrounding Obama changes that", said Democratic lawyer Steve Gordon. Usually candidates in the early months had to go into voters’ living rooms to field questions." And then he delivers the insult: " “He’s not going to have the desperate need to go into people’s homes to pitch himself. It’s almost like he has the trappings of an incumbent.” ' Unnoticed entirely by the media frenzy surrounding Obama was the fact that Sen. Evan Bayh was here in New Hampshire on Friday night, in a small room at the Manchester Conference Center. He was drinking coffee with a group of Manchester voters, and answering questions one on one. There was no big frothing police presence. There were no limos and sirens. There was a simple man, in a simple room, with simple folk, coffee, and questions and answering. But Sen. Bayh doesn't have the backing of the media moguls who have apparently decided for us once again, their choice for our president. So to be fair, I went back over the transcript of what Obama actually said here in New Hampshire. And what I found was a sound bite speech taken right out of the Rove playbook. This transparent stump was nothing more than a photo op, using New Hampshire as the backdrop, due to it's traditional first in the nation status. We recieved the patented " New Direction." There were the usual platitudes of "Needed Change." But nowhere in this speech was there one word of how or what these new directions, or needed changes were, or how he would put them into effect. One Manchester senator summed it up better than I could hope to do. Sen. Lou D’Allesandro said : " “The next time he comes here, people will be looking for more substance. All we’ve gotten from Barack is good looks, good rhetoric, and great publicity.” We here in New Hampshire, with the exception of the elites, agree with the senator. Now we await the queen of lies, Ms. Clinton, who should be running up here any minute to counter the Obama punch. Sen. Clinton will do exactly the same thing that Obama did, and hold court among the political elites, ignoring the voters completely. So far, and the candidates may want to take note, the scorecard is Bayh: 1, the rest of the pack: 0 Where are you when we need you Al?.....................................Batmanchester http://vigilantwatchnewsandblog.com/blog.html |

Great piece Bat. The media is doing a good job of spinning Obama to the public. My wife was commenting this morning that Obama might be the first honest leader to come along in decades. I just laughed. She gave me the rolled eyes with the "he's a crazy man and a cynic" sigh.
