Far-reaching Gun Ban Would Cripple The Second Amendment
-- McCarthy's bill to outlaw millions of guns

Gun Owners of America
8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102
Springfield, VA 22151

Thursday, March 22, 2007

The Democrats are back in power and their anti-gun wing is trying to make up for lost time as far as gun control legislation is concerned. There are a number of bills that have been introduced already, but GOA will be there to meet every challenge.

Right now, we need your help in beating back a reintroduction of the so-called "assault weapons ban," the infamous bill that outlawed many types of firearms based primarily on cosmetics, misinformation and scare tactics.

The bill is HR 1022, and last month it was introduced by the Queen of Gun Control, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). Its 30 cosponsors comprise a list of the usual anti-gun suspects -- so we need to make sure that no pro-gun congressmen are duped into signing their names onto this anti-gun piece of trash.

McCarthy entitled her bill the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007, knowing these firearms aren't "assault weapons" and knowing the bill she is reintroducing does nothing to prevent violent crime -- since the guns in question have seldom been used in crime.

McCarthy's bill would reinstate all of the now defunct provisions related to semi-automatic firearms and large capacity magazines. The manufacture and/or importation of many firearms would be prohibited. This would be paired with a strong ban on the possession or transfer of detachable magazines having moderate or larger capacities.

Truth be told, HR 1022 is the old ban on steroids. Fourteen more guns are listed by name than in the '94 ban, and only one "dangerous" feature, such as a pistol grip, is needed to make a "nice" gun into a "bad" gun. The old ban required two "dangerous" features, such as a pistol grip and a folding stock. This distinction effectively expands the scope of the bill to ban a far broader variety of firearms.

Since the U.S. Department of Justice has already documented that the previous "assault weapons" ban did absolutely nothing to stop violent crime, it is clear that HR 1022 is simply a direct attack on the 2nd Amendment rights of gun owners.

More than 10 years ago, the anti-gun lobby and their friends in the media began waging a campaign to frighten people and convince them that the so-called "assault weapons" are rapid fire machine guns when, in reality, they are merely semi-automatic firearms that look different than traditional hunting rifles.

This bill is designed to cripple the firearms industry while infringing on the rights of all gun owners. It is proof positive that the rabid, anti-gun members of Congress really don't care about stopping crime or saving lives -- they just want to take our guns away.

What are the odds of this bill getting through the Congress? Who knows? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just gave Rep. Jefferson a seat on the Homeland Security Panel. Jefferson was the guy who had $90,000 dollars of bribe money stuffed into his freezer.

If the liberals now in control of the Democrat Party feel they are strong enough to get away with that kind of outrage, they may feel they can get away with passing a gun ban that does nothing but punish law-abiding gun owners.

We must take seriously every anti-gun bill introduced in this Congress. But, at the same time, this bill is an opportunity to beat up those members of Congress who hate guns and will stop at nothing to eliminate our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

If we can give them a good thrashing on HR 1022, we may be able to discourage them from bringing forth more bills like this. And that is why we need your help in beating down HR 1022 quickly, and making sure that none of the good guys get suckered into supporting this.

ACTION: Please use the pre-written letter below to direct your comments to your Congressman. And circulate this alert to your pro-gun friends and family.

You can visit the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center to send your Representative a pre-written e-mail message. And, you can call your Representative toll-free at 1-877-762-8762.

---- Pre-written letter to your Representative ----
Dear Representative:

I'm sure you are aware that Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) has reintroduced, in the form of HR 1022, the Clinton semi-auto gun ban that sunset a couple of years ago. The Justice Department reported that the ban's impact on gun violence was small at best, and too small to be statistically valid.

By contrast, states adopting concealed carry laws had significant decreases in violent crime while states and cities maintaining strict gun control laws continued to have the nation's highest rates of violent crime.

I agree with Gun Owners of America that the only people affected by the so-called "assault weapons ban" of 1994 were law-abiding gun owners, manufacturers and importers. Clearly, this bill is nothing less than an infringement on the rights of gun owners. And we won't stand for it.

The supporters of HR 1022 will be identified as anti-gun Congressmen and, hopefully, targeted for defeat at the next election. As your constituent, I urge you to oppose this or any other gun grabbing bill in the 110th Congress.

Sincerely,

So, let me get this straight, the democrats are doing nothing to stop Bush from invading Iran, they're doing nothing to expose the hoax of the "war on terror", They're not going to investigate the truth about 9/11, and they've taken impeachment "off the table", but they want to disarm ME? They want to take MY guns?! Makes me sooooo glad I voted for them!

I say, you want my guns, come and get them! FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS MF!

No sh*t pal. I'll be dead before that happens. Didn't vote for the Dems though. I knew they were part of the same ruling elite that laugh at us behind our backs.

Funny how this bill was introduced 3 weeks ago, just in time for this most recent tragedy. (IMG:http://pilotsfor911truth.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/nonono.gif)

How true! The bastards support criminals in the White House, an illegitimate war, and all kinds of other criminal acts, but now they want to take everybody's guns.

If just ONE other person on that campus had been armed and in the right location, things would have turned out very differently yesterday.

What gets me, is why are guns needed?, I understand the constitution, right to bare arms and that, but surely a baseball bat or rottweiler in protection is all that is needed.

To show a point... I had someone trying to break into my house during the hours of sleep, out came the butt end of a snooker que and in it went into the idiots head and face. Had a severe beating, but since then, had respect shown when after a few months rehab the guy apologised and said he deserved it. Normally the coppers over here would have the victim charged with GBH, but not in this case.

In regard to this case of the Uni, how many times has there been a mass killing like this over such a trivial reason?. Even people have walked into their ex place of work and shot people over being sacked, or mistreated etc....

Intelligent ownership of guns by responsible and law abiding people is ok, until one of them goes off their nut for some reason. It might have been easier to have not included the right to bare arms in the constitution in the first place... hindsight is a wonderful thing sometimes.

Yesterday is a prime example of why we need a society that has a focus on responsible gun ownership and use. Meaning...it should be part of education curriculum and ongoing training just like a drivers license.

The right defend one's self is important not only from the cat burglar, but one's government. The government is who the founding fathers of this country had in mind when the 2nd Amendment was created. As citizens we have allowed an elite to water down its purpose. If there is ever an issue that will divide this country along lines of battle and revolution it will be the 2nd Amendment.

I pray I am not alive to see the day when the scumbag elite try to take guns in America...it will be a sad and bloody period.

BUT, regarding the defending from one's government part, let us not forget WACO. My point being, when the government wants to get you, no matter how much firepower you may have, the government will bring in more.

We must NEVER give up our right to arm and defend ourselves, but our real key to survival is to be ever ready to OUTSMART them. Think of all the incredible weapons the government has at it's disposal. The most powerful machine gun known to man can't stop that stuff.

Amazing....this pre-meditated and scripted "As The World Turns" socio-political Soap Opera our United States of America has become.

The Media Blitz is on and is going to get shoved down everyone's throats whether you like it or not. This VT shooting.

I have NYC t.v. "news" reporting going on - and all of these DETAILS that the Corporate News organizations are capable of OBTAINING in but 24 hours and their being capable of throwing up to manipulate, influence and control people's thoughts, attention and conversions in such short a period of time.

All these intimate DETAILS about the VT shooter. I'm surprized Corporate Media hasn't told us how many times Cho has BRUSHED HIS TEETH while at VT!

Consider how many DETAILS have been deliberately discarded with respect to the 9-11-2001 "Arab terrorist" attacks by that same Corporate New Media machinery.

Let's see...600,000 Iraqis killed. What's the current actual count of US Armed Forces members either KIA or WIA now? Can't compare that number or mention that number in the same breathe/same sentence with this Cho shooting, now can we?

It was the French Catholic writer Charles Peguy who penned "He who does not bellow the truth when he knows the truth makes himself the accomplice of liars, forgers and murderers."

I don't care one iota - but the folks at NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, CNN etc - in short, the entire Corporate Media structure operating in the USA - each and every last one of their employees is responsible for the BUSH/CHENEY Murderers of the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan.

ALL OF THEM are accomplices by allowing these MENTALLY UNBALANCED and MENTALLY DISTRUBED individuals within Washington D.C. to "get their hands on" all of the FIREARMS as well as WEAPONS of the U.S. Armed Forces so as to go on their SHOOTING SPREES in Iraq.

I'm surprized that any number of ARMED Military Police from each of the four branches of the U.S. Armed Forces haven't considered "taking out" these crazed/mentally unbalanced and mentally disturbed CRIMINAL SHOOTERS holed up in any and all of the Federal Buildings of Washington D.C. who have lined up 600,000 Iraqi citizens in their own country and put either a bullet, bomb or deplete uranium into their bodies.

I'm preparing another letter to my Congressman!

This is simply DUMB LEGISLATION. Like someone said, the REAL CRIMINALS (BOTH INSIDE GOVT and OUTSIDE) will continue to obtain any gun they want. This legislation will do NOTHING but infringe on WHAT LITTLE RIGHTS' we have left.

Take away our GUNS, and Marshall Law and Tyranny will be NEXT.

Never seen such stupidity in people who call themselves leaders! (IMG:http://pilotsfor911truth.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
