You're in, RB -- and, indeed, flying is an art! wink.gif

By the way, since I usually let those who are geekier than I am deal with these things, I feel like my head is swimming setting up a forum under the hood. ugg. like I needed another reason to not get ANY art work done??

LoL

Here are the Board Rules, Ricky -- http://z13.invisionfree.com/artistsfor911t...?act=boardrules -- you're certainly welcome to join so far as I'm concerned. I mean after all one of the greatest artists of the last century, Marcel Duchamp, gave up doing ANYTHING other than playing chess.

Me an artist? I'll let you decide.

I paint with light i.e. photography.

I have created artifacts using design software and DTP

I used my own line drawings and sketches of aircraft to illustrate my journal when an artificer under training and have done the odd drawingt since.

I write the above in all honesty for I am not a con artist.

Well, that definitely counts.

That, too!

Well, it can be and has been argued that all "artists" are "con" artists of a sort. If I can get you to see something that isn't there or feel something not directly related to anything other than my "artistry" -- well, then, what am I doing? Where does "artificial" and "artifice" get their name? Art is magic -- and most of magic is 'slight of hand'. That is, the redirection of attention.

If you want to know which 'group' of human beings originally began leading the sheeple down the primrose path to slaughter, you have your answer. It was the artisans -- who were, in origin, Shaman and Magus folk; the Wizards and Warlocks and Witches all feared and for damn good reason. At least that is what we wanted you to believe. See, even now, so many make this distinction: artist/not-artist. Meanwhile the Balinese have a saying: "We have no art. We do everything as well as we can."

Well, then, YOU'VE BEEN ROBBED!

It is really sad, to me, that people actually believe things like what you just said. See, here it is: The whole WORLD that you perceive is an ARTIFACT of YOUR CREATION. Of course you aren't aware of this any more than you're aware of how this artifact (your perception of the world including yourself in it) has been programmed and distorted by your interaction with society, including your parents, teachers -- all the early influences on your life. Nevertheless, none of us see reality as it is. None of us. We all see something that is created as a result of a combination of influences. However, what we have is all our own. What you see around you is a world of your own creation. Same thing when you listen to a piece of music or read a book or look at a painting or watch a movie or what have you. It is all just meaningless data that is MADE INTO MEANING (or not) as a result of YOUR observation of it. Without YOU -- nothing would mean anything at all.

So, there.

Well, we're going to have to beat the bushes a bit to drum up some interest -- but its out there. See you when you can make it!

I signed up and didn't get my validation email yet, but was able to log in. Didn't try to post. Now, the site is loading too slow and I get an error. It should self correct, I guess.

Anyway, this is perfect for me. I've been needing an online outlet for more social, creative and philosophical discussion with like minded people. Though we have great camaraderie here this place is a bit more serious and less chummy. I look forward to some interesting sharing and discussion. I will pose as a photographer.

Thanks for doing this painter! Do you mind if I promote it on MySpace?

EDIT: I am able to access the site now but could not post. I had the validation email resent and logged out. Can't wait to post!

Hey I'm comfortable believing what I say, it really doesn't bother or sadden me. I'm just juggling the conundrum of wanting to support your new forum despite not considering myself an artist of any description. But I'm not a pilot, and this forum has made me think more than any other out there.

I never got my validation email either...

Painter, you may want to check the settings. Its also possible InvisionFree turned off the email setting on their server for IF since they moved to Zetaboard... as we had problems at the old forum towards the end. You may have to manually validate all members.

WooHoo! I have to go run some errands right now and am also in the middle of moving, so I may not have much time to post right away. But this could be a really good venue. Thanks again for doing this, painter!
