I just finished reading parts of the memorandums from the 9/11 Commission online release. On page 5 of this document
QUOTE Marr told Commission staff that his focus was on UAL 93, which was circling over Chicago. Marr thought VAL 93 was waiting for word over what had been happening across the country to begin its attack. Anyone even want try to attempt to explain this one???? This release of the Commission's memos will no doubt create even more mysterious questions than we already have. It's a funhouse hall of mirrors.

That is the essence of my reply- I found no fewer than 4 conflicting quotes in the .PDF cited (I guess I can close it out now). I also don't think I ever met a "Commander Colonel" like "Commander Colonel Marr" in the NEADS? "document" that has no letterhead or insignia BTW... (IMG:http://pilotsfor911truth.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/whistle.gif) Apparently "Commander Colonel" is a legitimate rank though- maybe it's new. I'm guessing O-5 here, like "Lieutenant Colonel" in the other 3 branches, although I am distinctly reminded of an old episode of M*A*S*H here. http://swtexaslive.com/node/5490 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States...r_rank_insignia [Yes it's the Wiki, but it looks accurate to the "old" DoD system IIRC] |

He could have been a Major or a Captain... |

Val 93 almost sounds like a military callsign to me.

IMHO the word "Commander" is not part of the rank of the individual but his function. He could have been a Major or a Captain... "Commander" is a perfectly acceptable rank/form of address in the "old" US Navy. "Lt. Col." would be the O-5 equivalent in the "old" USMC (or Army, or USAF for that matter). http://www.mcu.usmc.mil/pme/officer/05.htm It was the mixing of the terms commander and colonel that I haven't seen before. FWIW, the USMC is considered a branch of the US Navy (if somewhat loosely). There could quite possibly be a DoD memorandum somewhere on this- I'll let others search for it however. The lack of a GUS letterhead was the fishiest part that I immediately questioned. EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the Coast Guard. At a quick glance, that looks to be the same as the US Navy (for officers anyway): http://jade.theostrohafamily.com/rank.htm#Coast%20Guard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States...r_rank_insignia |

Val 93 almost sounds like a military callsign to me. I think that is a typo/PDF glitch. My copy of the last paragraph of page 5 on the .PDF reads: http://media.nara.gov/9-11/MFR/t-0148-911MFR-00762.pdf "... Marr told Commission staff that his focus was on UAL 93, which was circling over Chicago. Marr thought UAL 93 was waiting for word over what had been happening across the country to begin its attack. Marr started to attempt to find pilots and fighters COMMISSION SENSITIVE UNCLASSIFIED" For some reason, this pastes as "VAL 93" when I just tried it now- check p.5 of the .PDF (which is an adaptation of Postscript, a printer typesetting language originally set up by Adobe and Apple, but I digress). I blame the printer codes IMHO. EDIT: Are you thinking of this old "warbird" maybe, amazed? ;) Aichi D3A1 (Val) Carrier Bomber http://www.vf31.com/aircraft/val.html |

QUOTE Marr thought UAL 93 was waiting for word over what had been happening across the country to begin its attack. And what is that supposed to mean? (IMG:http://pilotsfor911truth.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) |

So do you think this was perhaps a blip insert into the system as part of the wargames or could this be a second plane ready for a swap via Northwoods?
