"After going to the crash scene and scouting, we found that the area of the disaster is very wide and wreckage of the crashed plane have been thrown around as far as 150 to 200m," he said.

Television footage showed a massive crater in a field, with smouldering debris over a wide area.

Let's examine the difference between this awful crash and Flight 93. As more details become available it should provide a really good comparison in terms of the amount of wreckage visible at the crash site.

Above aircraft a former Aeroflot surplus Tupolev TU-154 (nicknamed in the West as 727ski) was among many old Soviet built airliners now in use in Iran. Due to the restrictions in place on the sales and import of western built aircraft to Iran, Russian built airliners are wet leased by several domestic and international airlines in that country.

There have been several fatal crashes of such aircraft in the past few years many of witch contributed to the age and maintenance of these obsolete equipment.

This aircraft (EP-CPG) crashed on July 15, 2009, near Jannatabad, Qazvin Province, while en route from Tehran (IKA) to Yerevan. Sadly, all 168 on board were killed.

How do they justify this statement, "Authorities say the wreckage and corpses were totally consumed by the flames," when they publish this photo?

Sounds to my amateur ears like they are trying to justify the Flight 93 lie.

daniels - just playing devil's advocate here but - is it possible the judo gi you see in the photograph came from wrecked luggage (which may have fell/flown away from the fuel/flames), and not from a physical victim/person? i doubt the judo team members were wearing them while travelling...

This is a good point Paranoia.

The article did say, "Authorities say the wreckage and corpses were totally consumed by the flames."

Perhaps they could have worded it, "[much of] the wreckage and corpses were totally consumed by the flames."

here are some pictures of the crash site. I took them from an article of the austrian newspaper www.derstandard.at

comparing this scene from the scene in shanksville I would say that the crater itself is many times bigger here, that the whole crash field is many times bigger and that here we find many big parts of the wrecked airplane.

Iranian aircraft crash caught on new video
by Grant Martin (RSS feed) on Jun 3rd 2011 at 2:30PM

2009's crash of an Iranian military aircraft was a terrible loss of life and technology. Emerging this week is a new perspective of the crash, captured from the back of a C130 that happened to be refueling an F-4 Phantom in the area. In the video, you can clearly see the Iranian aircraft spiraling out of control and tumbling down to earth, a haunting image captured purely by accident.

The new footage gives some insight into what the final moments of any plane crash must be like, a dizzying array of motion, confusion and terror. It's enough to make one consider taking a long, quiet break from air travel.
