This, however, begs the question, if someone was going to go to all the trouble to in some way FAKE the FDR data and plant it as evidence, why does that data NOT clearly indicate a feasible impact scenario?

Because the easiest way to fake a FDR is to place it in a duplicate aircraft and fly the same route as the plane that would fly over the Pentagon on 9/11--one guy flying the plane, the other reading a checklist of everything needed to be done. Guy #2 gets to the part where it says, "Open cockpit door," reaches around behind him (or stands?), opens the door and then immediately closes it, unaware that the recorder only samples the door every 4 seconds.
