i knew him.
he was my congressman. and dumber than a jackass. i went to him for relief from an onerous tariff. and he did assist. probably because i had connections to major employer in his district, lufkin industries. but it was his staff that did the heavy lifting. in a sense, charlie was just a congressional supernumerary. his staff was all retired usn. all oni. the obits are interesting. they all avoid his relationship to the man who essentially adopted him, arthur temple, jr. an eminence grise of texas and national politics. temple industries, at one time, the major supplier of newsprint to virtually all the newspapers in the usa. which made arthur temple a controller of the print media. at some time in the early 1970's, henry luce's time, inc acquired temple industries. suddenly henry luce[skull & bones]'s corporation[time, inc] controlled the print media's substrate. and charlie was the house congressman. historically, it is important to consider the power of east texas money on us politics. here are some names that you might recognize that derived their fortunes from those east texas oil fields....h l hunt, sid richardson, to name but a few. let us also reflect upon some of the other fascist bastid pols from east texas....martin dies. sam rayburn. and let us remember fondly the east texas pol who opposed the fascist bastids, wright patman. a man of a character that we need to rediscover. |
