To record that Willie Nelson said the words 'controlled demolition' and started to explain whereupon Larry King hunched up his bony shoulders and shut him down saying ' but there has been a gov investigation and..." (and it trailed off).

I like Larry King. Too bad he's owned by the 911 Posse.

Notes in the margin: CNN started Arron Brown fresh on the news desk Sept. 11th, 2001

Edited to add: if you watch this interview, and are at all sensitive to the subtleties, watch the look eyeball to eyeball that LKL gives Willie. It's a moment in time where the party line speaks forcefully to the radical fringe. It's a forceful reminder to Willie, who it is, that butters his bread; and to perhaps shut the f*ck up gracefully, which he goes along with, most naturally.

HI Jim Mac!

Great Post. Without seeing it, I can visualize it, and I think you have read the interaction perfectly.

yes, willie would surrender.

he knows how vulnerable he is. the feds can take him down for narcotics violations any time that they choose.

and the irs. willie has been avoiding paying his taxes for years. he settled a couple of years ago for nonfiling, taxfraud, but i think he hasn't stopped being a scofflaw.

willie knows that he can be jailbait at any moment.

A cute story! I can just see Larry's reaction, because it's the same reaction many people offer when the subject is broached.

Good for Willie for bringing it up.

Great, yes and my mistake Willie did not actually utter the words 'controlled demolition', rather he said 'imploded' (from inside) and agreed to the question of something happening inside.

Larry's comment: " I was told...airplanes, fires, great heat.. blah blah "

I was actually disappointed in that interview, in that Larry called it a 747 and it went unchallenged, and I thought Willie was going to say no steel frame building has ever collapsed due to FIRE, not due to an airplane hitting it. I love Willie, and am on his side, but I think he shoulda left the bong alone before this interview. He could have been better prepared for this topic.

Now on to the important question: How many guitars do you own?

It was also Paula Zahn's first day too. I guess they both performed well enough to get their owns shows soon after.

Funny, there were a lot of people who were just starting new jobs that day, like John O'Neill who had just started as the head of security at the WTC.

i saw the interview..

for the average sheepeople watching the show, who know very litttle about 911,
Willie Nelson did little to help our cause. He allowed Larry to get out his B.S. unchallenged.

Agreed. As if Larry reached out with two hands and gave the lid a little tightening. Not to mention the set-up, Willie confessing to smoking a joint beforehand. Potheads and truther dopes...

Oh well, the media's firmly in control of the faery tale anyway. Its just a parlor game now, pitting we crazies and nuts against the media who hold the general population hostage in dreamland.

Do you really think that is what runs through his mind? There is a pecking order, and in this case, as its in Larry's house, Willie obeys protocol. Willie as a living icon, a national treasure, can pretty much say what he thinks, and get way with it.

I think Willie made an effort, and was managed perfectly. BTW, where is bob dylan these days... so much for All Along the Watch Tower..
