We believed you, Mr. Bush, when you told us the lies precluding the invasion of a sovereign nation. We stayed the course with you, even when reports started to trickle in owing to the fact, that there never were any weapons of mass destruction. We hesitated when the violence began to erupt anew after you swooped in like a conquering hero on the landing pad of the aircraft carrier, and declared 'Mission Acommplished.' We finally had a bellyful of your lies on election day, and sent your cronies packing, in the deluded hope that you would get the message. How wrong we were.
You do not hear the voice of the people who "elected" you. You can not see the anguished tears of the parents of our children who die in this war that you finally had the audacity to admit was for the oil. Our voices fall on deaf ears. The ever escalating, out of control violence in Baghdad, Sadr City, Al-Anbar, and all over Iraq show that we can not win this war. It is no longer about winning anyway. It has now become an every person for themselves, old fashioned, wild west shoot-out, with our troops the ones with big red, white and blue targets painted on their backs. Over the past few days, the Iraqi people themselves have taken the bloodletting to a new and viscious level. Massive car bombs kill by the hundreds now. People dragged from their homes and set afire, burned alive, Mr. President! Beheadings, tortured bodies strewn like so much garbage in the streets of this once proud capitol city, and a wave of fear unlike anything experienced under the most brutal days of Saddam Hussein. Even today, more people were pulled from their homes in Diyala, and shot dead, while their families could only look on in horror. But yet, you insist that we must stay until the job is done, or we'll have to fight them over here, in our own streets. What have you wrought, Mr. President? What legacy do you now own? Even now, can you not open a newspaper, or turn on a television, and see what your plan for victory is doing? How many more must be mutilated and killed before someone steps in, realizing that you are completely lost in the woods? How long before the rest of the country wakes up and comes to the startling conclusion that your 'War on Terror' was never about spreading peace, freedom, and democracy, but was really about a power grab, and the suppression of our own constitution? Am I wrong, Mr. Bush? If so, then kindly explain to the American people why with so much violence going on in Iraq, with Osama Bin Laden supposedly running around the caves of the mountain regions between Jalalabad and Peshwar, that you use our country's intelligence resources not to find and stop our enemies, but instead turn that apparatus on us? Wiretapping, NSA internet spying, the targeting of peace groups as 'enemy combatants, the seizure of library records, the list goes on and on. How does this accomplish our goals in Iraq, Mr. President? How does this stop just one of our soldiers, or one Iraqi child from being slaugtered in a conflagration of your making? Where are the 'moral values', the Christian values you spoke so much of during your campaign stumps? How can anyone who claims the moral high ground know that people are dying as you sit down to a Thanksgiving feast, shrug their shoulders, and bald faced tell us that you're trying to minimize civilian casualties? Minimize civilian casualties? Your own people now say that the civilian casualty rate is probably in the 200,000 range. Independant research puts the figure at over a half a million! What Saddam Hussein did in all his years as dictator, you have accomplished in less than four years. And now, here we are. Iraq is a pool of blood, a cesspool of hatred and murder, with our men and women caught in the crosshairs. Our allies are afraid of US now, Mr. Bush. The rest of the world is rearming themselves in a frenzied attempt at deterring us from attacking them next. The African continent is awash in new blood, from The Congo to Darfur. The money, OUR money, that has been spent on this folly could have wiped out homelessness and hunger in this country forever, let alone that we could have given the entire world clean drinking water, and enough food to sustain themselves for 5 years. That would have been plenty of time to get their own food supply growing. So instead of flowers and candy, we are met with bullets and hatred. The damage done to our national integrity will take generations to repair. And still the violence spirals out of control. So, my question to you is simply this: Will there be no end to the bloodshed Mr. Bush? Batmanchester |
