Easyiest way to download Google-videos whithout any add-on:

Download the Google video over the 'Download'-button on the
movies site on GV.
You will download a small file (some k) that is ending with .gvp and
is just to link your google player to the actual film on the google server.

Open this file in any text-editor and you will get something like this:

Yes, that is the "round about way" to do it.
I think the add-ons just automate it for you.

I'm thinking about looking into a Greasemonkey script that will create that direct link for you somewhere on that page so you can just right-click and Save As.

Although that add-on lets you download videos from a huge slew of pages, not just Google. (and YouTube) And they are adding more as people request them.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. This particular vid (the Olbermann one) was an MSNBC vid. The major news channels are notorious for using rm's and ram's or streaming flv's.

UrlSnooper looks like just what I want C_C - there's that sneaky little rtsp url at the bottom! (IMG:http://pilotsfor911truth.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Flv's, btw, hide in your cache after you've watched the vid. If you arrange the files by size, you can usually pick them right out, add the .flv extension and they're good to go.

Thanks. That urlsnooper looks interesting. I use vDownloader for Youtube and it's very straightforward. It's supposed to download Google vids aswell but they don't seem to work for me...

Tubesock is a utility for downloading youtube vids to a Mac. Paste the url into the window and it will save the video to one of several formats.

If you have a convertor at home, you canalso just copy them from temporary internet files in your local settings and then convert them in your favourite format. First clear history and cookies, then watch youtube/google film and when grey(not red) bar under movie is full, you'll find it in temporary internet files(for XP).

Here's a website that allows download of many videos from Google, YouTube, and several other locations. It occassionally gives a choice of several formats (depending upon video source, I believe). The .FLV isn't the best quality available, but it is relatively compact.

To download any Video on the internet right to your computer...DownLoad "realplayer". With this, It gives you a "Download" option to every video. All you have to do is put your curser over the video after you press play. Sometimes you need to give it a couple of seconds to load.

I use Firefox with the "add on", DownloadHelper.
Then I can convert the video formats to DVD with
"DVD Flick" and burn them to disk.

...and one by one the wars ended.

It's not perfect but one can only hope...

For Safari, Mac users, the easiest I have found is: CosmoPod.

After you have installed it, you have a button next to the address bar in Safari and everytime your playing a video in the browser, you just push the button to download.

here >> X:\Documents and Settings\Chuck\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

You'll also need to set your Folder Option to un-check "Show Hidden files and folders" Plus "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions files for known file types"

Now that is done, always look for the file video.flv
