I'm going to be taking a look at some still frames from two videos which can be found at http://www.youtube.com/v/Z6l0jHneGko and http://www.youtube.com/v/CwjmqkjwnvQ in comparison with some still pics to get a rough idea of the timing of the footage based on shadow and sunlight analysis. Recommended comparing this analysis with Mintaka's analysis of an explosion video, since it references the same area and what I'm calling Building B and uses a sundial method as part of the timing analysis.
first up- a picture of the Irving Trust Building, which I will occasionally refer to in other pics as a reference point, then collapse of North tower pics Let's call the building across Greenwich Street from (to the east of) the Irving Trust building building B. Building B can be seen to be casting a shadow across Greenwich Street onto the ITB's lower northeast corner in these collapse pics. As the day progresses, that shadow will move further east. We will also be observing the shadows being cast by the penthouse structures on the top of building B as the day progresses. later in the morning shots shadows still being cast towards the west, but the shadow of building B no longer stretches across across Greenwich at this point in time.

later shots from the youtube vid- WTC 7 now appears to be casting a shadow onto the roof of Building B

Conclusions- the two separate clips of the north side of WTC 7 were taken at noticeably different times of the day, though probably both in the early/mid afternoon and were played in reverse order on that video. The shadows seem to indicate that those shots were taken at a similar time of day to the ones shown below from this video, but well before the collapse occurred. The "it's blowin' boy" comment was made well before the actual collapse began. This can be seen because the roof of building B was entirely in shadow from another building as can be seen in the post which follows- WTC 7 is in the process of collapsing in that shot, but the dust from WTC 7 hasn't risen to the point where it would be causing that shadow yet.

If anyone else wants to get more precise with a sundial clock type reading of times on these pics or has more similar perspective pics/vids to add, feel free.

Oh, yeah. I temporarily spaced out on this first pic below, taken by Terry Schmidt from a similar location and a similar time frame (looks like somewhat later in the afternoon to me, based on shadows) to the "it's blowin' boy" footage. http://ken.ipl31.net/gallery/albums/wtc/img_1513_001.jpg
(IMG:http://ken.ipl31.net/gallery/albums/wtc/img_1513_001.jpg) and then there are the well known pics from Greenwich street- showing afternoon sunlight, but building B still has sunlight falling on its upper floors. http://ken.ipl31.net/gallery/albums/wtc/img_1511_001.jpg http://ken.ipl31.net/gallery/albums/wtc/img_1512_001.jpg (IMG:http://ken.ipl31.net/gallery/albums/wtc/img_1511_001.jpg) (IMG:http://ken.ipl31.net/gallery/albums/wtc/img_1512_001.jpg) This post has been edited by waterdancer: Feb 15 2007, 01:20 AM |

That's a very sweet vid! Footage of the rarely seen west side ground level there in the beginning also. Great find. Back that up well, my friend. Even has a time stamp. Awesome!

Shadows and light falling on the building between building B and WTC 7 (I believe that is Fiterman hall) indicate a time frame of roughly late morning on these.
