I'm reading that if you are an average US/North American sheep, it's around 3000. That's about 1 second of marketing message for every 20 seconds you are awake. I'm guessing most of those come either through the internet or billboards, though no doubt TV, radio, magazines and newspapers add their share as well.
Even if you think you are really good at ignoring them, they'll no doubt be seeping into your unconscious mind. Consumerism is the new world faith. Any other religious belief on the planet that had that much access to your mind would have been brought down long ago. I'm going to try to start counting how many marketing messages per day I see. Even if I include text ads, I'm guessing it's in the 100s not the thousands. So far I figure it's about 30 today, mostly PBB and text ads. And, if you already know the answer to the above question, then here's another one:
What %age of those marketing messages you see are run through the big eight corps, i.e.- Disney AOL/Time Warner Viacom/CBS NBC/Universal (owned by GE) News Corporation Yahoo! Microsoft I'm going to bet it's 90+%, myself. Check out MoJo's merger chart to see a graphic of what those 8 ultramegacorps control: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/20..._were_eight.pdf archive |
