Stop the Machine! Create a New World!

A Call to Action - Oct. 6, 2011 and onward

October 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan and the beginning of the 2012 federal austerity budget. It is time to light the spark that sets off a true democratic, nonviolent transition to a world in which people are freed to create just and sustainable solutions.

We call on people of conscience and courage—all who seek peace, economic justice, human rights and a healthy environment—to join together in Washington, D.C., beginning on Oct. 6, 2011, in nonviolent resistance similar to the Arab Spring and the Midwest awakening.

A concert, rally and protest will kick off a powerful and sustained nonviolent resistance to the corporate criminals that dominate our government.

Forty-seven years ago, Mario Savio, an activist student at Berkeley, said, "There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all."

Those words have an even greater urgency today. We face ongoing wars and massive socio-economic and environmental destruction perpetrated by a corporate empire which is oppressing, occupying and exploiting the world. We are on a fast track to making the planet unlivable while the middle class and poor people of our country are undergoing the most wrenching and profound economic crisis in 80 years.

"Stop the Machine! • Create a New World!" is a clarion call for all who are deeply concerned with injustice, militarism and environmental destruction to join in ending concentrated corporate power and taking direct control of a real participatory democracy. We will encourage a culture of resistance—using music, art, theater and direct nonviolent action—to take control of our country and our lives. It is about courageously resisting and stopping the corporate state from destroying not only our inherent rights and freedoms, but also our children’s chance to live, breathe clean air, drink pure water, grow edible natural food and live in peace.

As Mother Jones said, "Someday the workers will take possession of your city hall, and when we do, no child will be sacrificed on the altar of profit!"

We are the ones who can create a new and just world. Our issues are connected. We are connected. Join us in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 6, 2011, to Stop the Machine.

Will this OCTOBER 6, 2011 effort measure up to the “Arab Spring”? Will Americans stand up and collectively act, through non-violent means, to return control of law and governance to the citizens.. where it rightly belongs? The answers rest in you, the average citizen and whether YOU will rise up, take your friends, your families and associates by the hand and heart and bring them with you to FREEDOM PLAZA OCTOBER 6, 2011 WASHINGTON DC. Prepare them all to stay. This is not a protest where we hold some signs, sing a few songs, listen to a few speakers and then go home and wait for the next rights to be destroyed, the next jobs to be lost, the next foreclosures.. THIS IS A GENUINE OCCUPATION.. A TAKE OVER.. A REVOLUTION.

Edmund Burke wrote: “The true danger is when liberty is nibbled away, for expedients, and by parts. “ We, as a nation, have been silently watching our rights being “nibbled” away under the guise of a deceptively named “Patriot Act”. "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." We have watched the bad men of Wall Street combine with the bad men of DC and one after another, we fall to the criminal enterprises they have enacted in our name. Burke also wrote: “No one could make a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.” When did you last write a letter to your representative, attend a town hall meeting, join a protest?

Time is something we no longer have on our side. If we do not act now, and act in a large way, what will we be able to tell our children when they ask us what we did to help save the country when the “bad men” were destroying it? I will be (already have started) telling them I was in DC on OCTOBER 6, 2011(and beyond) collectively attempting to STOP THE MACHINE! ..and because I believe that war is not a solution I pledged to use non-violence. I will not tell them that I stayed home watching football or even hunting through the corporate news to see what my friends and neighbors were doing in DC. And I will implore my children that no matter the outcome, I will hope they never give up on themselves, their friends and their brothers and sisters all over the world who sought and seek to be free of the tyranny we allowed to happen through our past ignorance, fear inaction.

Learn more about the OCTOBER 6, 2011 Occupation: and PLEASE SIGN THE PLEDGE, make your plans to stay, read and understand the principles of non-violent action and SPREAD THE WORD. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE (and it may be the last) TO STAND AS A TRUE PATRIOT IN DEFENCE OF YOUR COUNTRY.
