Was this plain shot down by the U.S. Military? Really what's the more truthful story?

Early on it appeared to some, including myself, that the flight was shot down. Accounts in Aviation Week & Space Technology made it sound plausible. Some Iowa or North Dakota reserve unit was operating out of maybe one of the DC airports and was vectored to the general area.

Some early reports from ground witnesses saw a smaller aircraft behind the Boeing. There were even some reports on the internet with the pilot's name, but of course no coverage from MSM.

But now it appears that the site of the wreckage is not consistent with a Boeing. Who knows? I don't.

But as is the case in DC, flying a Boeing low level for any period of time is bound to generate a few calls into the authorities on the ground. Especially if an F-16 were in trail. Especially with frigging US Mail being scattered about too.
