e-dog, a little something for you:
Alice's Restaurant! Since you've just turned 17 and are from a completely different culture than the USA, this probably won't make a whole lot of sense. Suffice it to say that the composer and performer of this not so "little (almost 20 minutes long) ditty" is
Arlo Guthrie, son of the famous Folk singer,
Woody Guthrie. Back in the 60s when I was your age, the Vietnam war was in full force and the
draft --
conscription into the armed forces --was something every young man had to register for. Arlo wrote this as kind of humorous anti-war, anti-draft "shaggy dog" (stories that seem to never end) protest song and it was a very big hit. Even if you don't get it, I'm sure a few others will find it a 'hoot'. This version, I believe, was recorded live a couple years ago. Enjoy!
