e-dog, a little something for you: Alice's Restaurant!
Since you've just turned 17 and are from a completely different culture than the USA, this probably won't make a whole lot of sense. Suffice it to say that the composer and performer of this not so "little (almost 20 minutes long) ditty" is Arlo Guthrie
, son of the famous Folk singer, Woody Guthrie
. Back in the 60s when I was your age, the Vietnam war was in full force and the draft
-- conscription into the armed forces
--was something every young man had to register for. Arlo wrote this as kind of humorous anti-war, anti-draft "shaggy dog" (stories that seem to never end) protest song and it was a very big hit. Even if you don't get it, I'm sure a few others will find it a 'hoot'. This version, I believe, was recorded live a couple years ago. Enjoy!
